Albacore is a very popular fish, important to both the sport and commercial fisheries, valued for their flavor; they are eaten fresh, frozen, or canned. Excellent Baked, Broiled or Grilled.
Albacore, a fast-moving tuna fish widely found throughout ocean waters of moderate temperatures, are common off the Pacific Coast from Alaska to Mexico as well as the Atlantic Coast and are especially abundant off the California Coast.
Albacore, sleekly built, are perfectly adapted for life as high-seas predators capable of hunting down speedy prey, such as sardines, anchovies, and squid. Thriving in loose schools near the surface, they can dive down up to 330 ft in search of prey.
Following the warm water currents, Albacore migrate great distances to spawn and feed , seldom entering bays or shallow coastal areas, however, during August and September; tuna approach the Monterey Coastal Areas to spawn, returning to deep water at the beginning of winter.
